Weekly Rankings: Week 4, Sept 22

Now we're getting into the meat of the season. West Virginia is at the top for a third straight week, but their early-season SoS is going to hurt them at some point (their overall, season-long SoS is ranked 52nd, but their SoS through the first 4 games of the season is 113th). Respectively, Washington has the hardest season-long SoS at this point, with their opponents at 35-14, but Tennessee has faced the hardest schedule so far, with their first 4 opponents at 11-3.

As for conferences, the Pac 10 dropped from 3rd to 5th this week. Why? Their points per team average went up a little bit, and all of their games were conference games... Basically it comes down to the fact that the two conferences that jumped them (the SEC and Big 12) went 3-0 and 7-2 respectively in their non-conference games. That boosted their points per team by double-digits.
