Rankings: Week 8

Even though Utah won, they drop down to second after Texas takes over the top spot with two stellar weeks that have earned them almost 100 points. Ohio State is ranked #5 and is the highest one-loss team, since their lost points from the USC debacle decrease with every Trojans' win. Speaking of USC, they're slowly climbing up the ranks as well, thanks mostly to their non-conf wins over the Buckeyes and Virginia. Plus they've only played six games as opposed to the seven or eight most other teams have. Another 5-1 team, LSU, is much further down in the rankings mainly because three of their wins have been against I-AA Appalachian State, 0-7 North Texas, and 2-5 Mississippi State. But they have the meat of their schedule coming up, starting this week with a visit from Georgia.

The non-BCS conferences are still well represented, even after BYU's loss. Utah, Ball State, TCU, Tulsa, and Boise State are all in the top 12. In the Big East, Pitt South Florida are battling it out. Toughest schedule still belongs to Michigan, followed by Nebraska & Purdue.

No real changes in the conference race - the Big12 is still on top by a fair margin, followed by the SEC and the Big10. Home field advantage is holding at around 66%, while the non-BCS and I-AA teams keep losing. They're now 22-80 and 2-82 against the BCS conferences, respectively.
