Week 11 Rankings

So Texas Tech stays in the top spot by a comfortable margin over Alabama, Texas, & Utah. Utah? Sure, why not? They beat TCU this week, which was their biggest win of the season, plus they have victories @ 8-2 Air Force & vs 6-3 Oregon State. That's pretty solid if you ask me. They still have 9-1 BYU to go, so they should stay near the top if they can win that one.

Now's the time when conference championships can really help or hurt. USC & Florida are 8-1 and at #6 & #7 respectively, about one point apart. They're behind 9-1 Oklahoma by about than 20 points though, so even a win over anybody but a I-AA is probably going to jump them over the Sooners. But Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and a bunch of other teams at the top might have the opportunity to play a conference championship game, which if they will will add anywhere from 40-60 points, approximately. But if they lose, they'll drop 20 or so. Double-edged sword, but very lucrative if you win.

Toughest schedule now belongs to Texas.

Really? The ACC is better than the SEC this year? Probably not, but they've accomplished more. That's what losing at home to Wyoming will get you. If you want to look at it another way, the ACC already has 8 teams bowl eligible, and only NC State is pretty much out of contention. So even though there's no one really great in the league, there's only one really bad team. The SEC only has 6 bowl eligible teams, and Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi State are pretty bad to near awful. Makes sense to me.
