We now return to our regularly scheduled controversy.

What's that? You've noticed all the decimals in Version A's computer polls and wondered what it would have looked like if the "Standard Deviation" rule hadn't been in effect? Good question - I suppose now is as good a time as any to look.

● For 1998-2000, it wouldn't have made a single difference in any of the top 15 BCS rankings. Not a single one. Sorry.

● In 2001, Oklahoma & Illinois would have switched spots to #8 & #9, respectively. At the same time, Maryland and Stanford would have switched spots to #10 & #11, respectively. No big deal, really.

● In 2002, we get a little more of an effect. Iowa and USC would have switched spots to be #4 & #5, respectively, as would have Oklahoma & Washington State (#6 & #7) and Texas & Notre Dame (#9 & #10). Interesting, but not earth shattering and certainly not anything that would have affected which teams went to which BCS bowls. Again, sorry to disappoint.

But wait'll we get to 2003...

2001 < Top > 2003
